Frequently Asked Questions About Gumtree Charges

What is Gumtree on my bank statement?

Gumtree is listed in the Retail category. Gumtree is a UK classified-ads site for buying, selling and local services. A direct charge is usually a fee for a paid or promoted listing rather than an item purchase, since most deals are arranged privately. Be cautious of off-platform payment scams, and entries read GUMTREE. It may appear on your bank statement under a shortened descriptor rather than its full name.

How do I cancel Gumtree?

If this is a recurring payment you no longer want, log in to your Gumtree account and cancel it in your account settings before the next billing date. If you recognise the merchant but have a question about the charge, contact Gumtree directly using the details on this page. If you do not recognise this entry, contact your bank or card issuer and ask them to confirm the transaction and merchant details. Only you and your bank can confirm whether a payment was authorised.

Why does Gumtree appear on my statement with a different name?

Banks display a short "transaction descriptor" set by the merchant's payment processor, not the company's full trading name. This is why Gumtree may appear as an abbreviation or code. The descriptor is usually the company's registered payment name, which can differ from the brand name you recognise.
