Detect My Charge is a free tool that helps you identify unknown transactions on your bank statement. Simply paste the transaction descriptor from your statement, and we'll match it against our database of UK merchants and common charges.
Our matching system compares your search against merchant names, common transaction descriptors, and aliases. We use a scoring algorithm to find the best match from our curated database of UK merchants.
Our database is extensive but not exhaustive. If you can't find a charge, it might be from a smaller merchant or use an unusual descriptor. You can help us by reporting the unknown charge using our report form, and we'll work on adding it to our database.

Yes. Searches you type are matched in your browser. We only keep a search if it finds no match (so we can add the missing merchant), with long card-style numbers and email addresses removed, or if you choose to rate a result or report a charge. Never enter your full card number or bank login details. When you choose to submit a report, that content is sent to our servers and stored securely in our database so we can review it. If a result doesn't match what's on your statement, tap No under "Does this match what's on your statement?". A short, optional form opens where you can tell us more. If we can't find your charge at all, the same form appears below the search result. This helps us improve our database for everyone.
